Do I need to buy a ticket in advance on the website?
Details. All tickets must be purchased in advance, here at pulpitrock.no. It is not possible to buy tickets on board.

Do I have to choose the date when I buy?
Yes, you need to choose your departure date – but the return ticket is flexible.
A ticket to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) is valid for a specific date and departure time and cannot be used for other departures. However, the return ticket is valid for up to four days after departure.

How does the round-trip ticket work?
The return ticket includes two bus trips: one to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) and one back.
- The trip is valid for the selected date and time.
- The return trip can be taken on any flight within four days of departure. The first-come, first-served principle applies, so arrive early if you have a specific departure you want to catch.
Please note: The return ticket is only valid to the departure point you traveled from. For example, tickets purchased with an outbound departure from Jørpeland cannot be used for a return all the way to Stavanger.

How does the one-way ticket work?
A one-way ticket is only valid for the direction and departure time you have purchased. Return tickets can be purchased separately and are valid for up to four days.

Can the ticket be changed or refunded?
- Cancellation more than 1 week before departure: full refund.
- Cancellation less than 1 week before departure: no refund.
- Bad weather does not entitle you to a refund.

Are there discounts for families or groups?
Yes, we have great discounts if you are traveling together:
- Family ticket: One fully paying adult round trip can bring up to three children for free.
- Friend ticket: If you are two adults traveling round trip, you get half price on one ticket.

How long does the bus take from Stavanger city center?
The bus ride takes about 50 minutes from Stavanger.
By the way, did you know that you will be driving through the Ryfylketunnel, the world’s longest underwater road tunnel (14.4 km, 292 meters below sea level)?

How do I recognize the bus?
Pulpit Rock Tours generally uses purple tour buses with the Pulpit Rock Tours logo, as you can see in the picture below.
If these buses are not available, we can use other buses (in other colors). These will be clearly labeled with “Pulpit Rock Tours” in another way.
If you are unsure whether you have found the right bus, ask the driver before boarding.

How do I stop the bus?
The bus only stops on signal. Give the driver a clear hand signal by extending your arm as the bus approaches the stop.

I’m arriving by cruise ship, which stop is closest?
The cruise ships dock at the port in Stavanger city center. The nearest stops are:
- Olav Vs gate I at hotel Radisson Blu Atlantic
- Klubbgata C by hotel Thon Stavanger

Can I show my ticket when boarding?
Yes, have your ticket with order number ready on paper or mobile before the bus arrives at the stop. Failure to present a valid ticket at the checkpoint will result in a fine.

Are pets allowed on the bus?
No, unfortunately we cannot allow pets on board the bus.

Can children travel alone?
School-age children can travel alone, but must:
- accompanied to the bus by a parent or guardian
- have the name and phone number of the responsible adult on them
The trip to Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen)

When is the best time to go up to Pulpit Rock?
You can go to the tour all year round, but it’s good to know that:
- May to October usually offers the best weather conditions
- June and July are high season for tourists and thus the most visited months
Check the weather forecast and listen to local advice. Postpone your trip rather than walk in bad weather, especially if you have children or people less used to the mountains in your party.
Start your trip early in the day, don’t be caught off guard by the darkness.

How demanding is the trip?
The hike to Pulpit Rock is considered moderately demanding:
- 330 vertical meters
- 8 kilometers round trip
- 4-5 hours in total
Not sure if you can handle the hike alone? During the high season (April-October), there are daily guided tours – a good option if you’re not used to the mountains.

Can children take the tour?
Children over school age who are used to hiking will usually complete the tour without problems. For younger children, it may be a little too demanding.

How long does the hike itself take?
You should calculate approximately 4-5 hours round trip from the parking lot.
Time spent depends on:
- physical form
- how experienced you are in rough terrain
- if you have children or people who are not used to the mountains in your group

What is the terrain like?
The terrain is varied. You’ll encounter both climbs and plateaus, lush western nature and rugged mountain terrain. You’ll cross bridges, walk over marshland and rocky paths, and pass several great viewpoints along the way.
Stay on the trail – both for your own safety and to preserve nature. The trail is well marked all the way.

Are there toilets along the way?
No, there are no toilets on the trail. Please use the facilities at the parking lot before departure.

What should I bring with me?
- Good hiking shoes
- Clothes adapted to the weather
- Extra clothes, hat and hiking gloves – the weather changes quickly in the mountains
- Good packed lunch and drinks for the trip

Other things I should know about?
- Trackless travel: Everything you take with you on your trip should come back with you. There are garbage cans on the road. Do not build cairns.
- Show consideration: No use of speakers for music and videos. Drones are prohibited. Dogs must be kept on a leash all year round.
- The use of disposable barbecues is prohibited: Otherwise, a general ban on bonfires between April 15 and September 15.
